Ministers causing fear and anxiety among our elderly
Share this:
From Cindy Beckford.
MY grandfather uprooted his family to the dangers of a bombed London so he could fight for this Island he loved and his daughters’ right to remain free to work hard and retain their dignity upon their return.
This my mother did, like so many of her generation, working two hard physical jobs so to not put pressure on the public purse leaving it for others that may need it more than her.
She never had much, but she never needed much only wishing respect and understanding in her old age. She worked hard to rebuild her Island and her heritage with pride. Coming from the era of ultimate austerity she fully understands that purse strings need to be tightened.
With the above in mind I want to say thank you to Senator Francis Le Gresley the Social Security Minister, for threatening her benefits which she has paid for all her life to provide for her old age, not in luxury, but at least with the necessities of life provided for.
Thank you Deputy Andrew Green, the Housing Minister, for threatening her peace of mind as to how she is going to afford the 20% increase in her rent and thank you Deputy Geoff Southern for threatening her with ill health if she can no longer afford the medication she requires as a result of working so hard all these years.
Finally, thank you, Chief Minister Ian Gorst for letting your ministers, and not old age, probably kill my mother quicker due to her having to decide as to whether to pay for rent/heat/food/health first.
Not only are you proving to be yet another emperor in new clothes but you border on moral corruption, the whole lot of you. It makes me wonder if you were worth fighting for.
