Giving his final statement to the States as chairman of the Jersey Consumer Council yesterday, Senator Alan Breckon said the ‘excuse’ given by many retailers that Jersey is a more expensive place to do business had to be investigated.
He now wants an in-depth ‘cost of doing business’ survey comparing Jersey with the UK to be carried out.
The Senator, who spent 15 years leading the organisation, also fired a parting shot at what he called the ‘very real’ conflicts between ministerial areas of responsibility and consumer interests.
