The Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authority has announced plans to cap the rates that operators charge each other when connecting calls.
Currently, Jersey Telecom, Cable and Wireless and Airtel-Vodafone charge each other 5.6p per minute to connect calls.
The rate, which is passed on to customers, is significantly higher than most of the operators in 33 European countries surveyed by the authority.
The authority is now planning to cap the charge – called a mobile termination rate – at 4.11p per minute and has opened up the proposal for consultation.
