The Jersey Chamber of Commerce has put forward proposals that it believes should be adopted to try and make the Island more competitive.

It says that the ‘Plan B’ is necessary as the States is not achieving cost-cutting targets and seems to be prepared to increase taxes at a time when businesses are struggling.

The Chamber argues that economic success will always follow competitive advantage.

But the organisation says that local businesses will become less and less competitive if they continue to have to pay increasing amounts of direct and indirect taxes.

Chamber president David Warr said: ‘They will not be able to grow and create the jobs required to sustain our economy and we will not be able to afford the public services we all expect and demand.’
