Goal posts moved and an own goal scored

From Alan Le Rossignol.
WOW, what a reversal of opinion you reported (JEP, 5 October). Interesting political chicanery.
So now the person who approved the Costa Portelet monstrosity is attempting to manipulate the electorate into passing the buck for the fiasco. We are to believe that former Deputy Jerry Dorey’s committee created this ‘terrible mistake’.
At no point can I remember a campaign to return the Portelet holiday camp area back to nature, as has happened at Plémont. There has never been any question about replacing the holiday camp with a modern development – that clearly is not the issue. We could easily accept the holiday camp and would have accepted any suitable replacement.
The fact is that this particular design which was pursued solely by Senator Cohen against the advice of his officers has destroyed the Portelet area.
It is obvious that as the election draws closer there is an attempt to engineer public opinion and blame previous planners for the carbuncle. It is undeniably this particular design which is the error – absolutely not the fact that a replacement development would occur.
This amounts to moving the goal posts and yet still scoring an own goal. I, for one, can smell a rat!
