From Brian Rondel.

WE have done it again – scoured the entire British Isles for a new director, this time for human resources (JEP, 9 August).

Shame we could not go further afield, although I suspect we have much in common with the Orkneys. I am totally amazed there is no one qualified in the Island capable of doing the job.

Sorry, folks. If you are an Islander, you’re of crapaud status and automatically disqualified from obtaining top jobs. If you don’t arrive in Jersey as chief officer/director, you’ve had it.

Reconcile yourself to positions lower down the scale – and you won’t get a golden handshake when you leave, either.

Is there no one who will listen? How many times has it been said? Stop recruiting people from outside.

Where has it gone wrong? Why aren’t there people in our civil service capable of succession? Is there no training for progression?

What incentive is there for anyone in a department if there is no possible chance of gaining a top position?

To say that I am totally browned off is putting it mildly
