Deputy Carolyn Labey had asked Members to request the Privy Council to overturn a States decision to reduce the number of Senators from 12 to eight. Her proposal was defeated by 26-25, with one abstention.

More than 30 politicians spoke during the debate, which lasted nearly six hours – the third time this year that Members had discussed whether or not to reverse their decision.

Deputy Labey said that she made no apologies for bringing the issue back to the States. ‘I’m convinced it’s the right thing to do for the Island,’ she said.
