Much of the annual charity challenge was conducted in gale force conditions and frequent showers as walkers gritted their teeth and trudged their way along roads, beaches and paths.

They set off at 3 am from Elizabeth Harbour, with volunteers manning checkpoints along the route, and finished at the Waterfront.

A few people chose to run – including Michael Charlton (42), who was the first home in just over eight hours – but most just concentrated on reaching the next checkpoint.
