Famed for hauling in the prizes, this top calibre squad includes British champions, Commonwealth shooters and not forgetting Dave Ward whose individual tally stands at 63 medals so far.

Thrown into the mix are newcomers Chris Le Moeligou and Nikki Holmes, the latter having risen through the ranks at an incredible speed since her competition debut in the Supershot this time last year.

The team

Mike Quénault (52): Chartered accountant. Air pistol and free pistol shooter. Going to his fourth Games having won silver in both Rhodes 2007 and Aland 2009. The current Island air pistol champion who hopes to medal in both of his events.

Did you know? Mike is part owner of the Jersey race horse Landolino.

Sporting idols: David Coulthard and Sebastien Vettel.

Derek Bernard (72): Works in the commercialisation of inventions. Individual and pairs centre fire pistol shooter. Has been at 11 Games and holds the record in centre fire pairs with Dave Ward set in 1997 with 1,134. A multi-medallist with pairs gold on five occasions who has also finished 11th out of 910 in the prestigious 2001 Swiss Rütli Pistolenschiessen.

Did you know? Derek was born in Egypt, his father in Sumatra, mother in Jamaica and brother in Wales.

Sporting idol: Darius R Young of USA.

Chris Le Moeligou (30): Software developer. Standard pistol shooter making his Games debut and hopes to enjoy the experience and shoot as well as he can.

Did you know? Chris has previously won pairs bronze in the Commonwealth Shooting Federation European Division.

Sporting idol: Team manager Mick Radcliffe.

Nikki Holmes (41): Deputy head of learning and skills at HMP La Moye. Air pistol and sport pistol team and individual shooter. Making her Games debut after taking up shooting one year ago following the Supershot competition. Her father is an ex-sniper and brother is a firearms instructor so she should have the genes to do well in this sport.

Did you know? Nikki was disqualified in her primary school egg and spoon race for kicking the egg – a fact she has strenuously denied for the past 35 years.

Sporting idol: Paul Collingwood.

Mary Norman (59): Housewife. Sport and air pistol shooter (plus prone rifle). Going to her third Games having won six medals including three gold. Is the 2010 British women’s air pistol champion and hopes to shoot consistently.

Did you know? Enjoys patchwork and quilting and volunteers as a shooting coach at Victoria College.

Sporting idol: Steve Redgrave.

Dave Ward (61): Management consultant. Air pistol, free pistol, centre fire pistol and standard pistol shooter. The Isle of Wight will be Games number nine. A winner of 63 Games medals of which 45 per cent are gold and hopes to add plenty more this year. A Commonwealth Shooting Federation European division medallist and Commonwealth Games shooter.
