THE owner of a St Helier department store is seeking a return to the States Chamber – more than 20 years after first stepping back from politics.

Gerald Voisin, who owns Voisins on King Street, was previously a Deputy for St Lawrence between 1999 and 2005. He will be seeking one of the three Deputy seats on offer in St Helier North in June’s election.

He said: “Our island desperately needs to address the three key issues that are
effecting everyone, the high cost of living, excessive government expenditure and our
economy that hasn’t grown in the last ten years.

“As a former member of the States Assembly, the first President of the Economic
Development Committee and a Jersey-based business man with 40 years’ experience, I am offering myself for election to help make the difficult decisions that lie ahead. By bringing our community together, we can secure greater prosperity for everyone and allow Islanders to plan their futures with confidence.”

Current St Helier North Deputies Max Andrews and Steve Ahier will be seeking re-election in the district, while Deputy Mary Le Hegarat and Inna Gardiner are set to contest the Senatorial and Constable elections respectively. Businessman and former Chamber of Commerce president Ian Barnes and entrepreneur Victoria Li have also confirmed for the district.

The election is due to be held on Sunday 7 June.
