RNLI lifeguard Cameron Coulson was carrying out a routine safety patrol as the tide dropped when he discovered the green and white canister on the shoreline.
He then quickly called the Coastguard and cleared the beach after spotting the word ‘danger’ written across the device.
Police and lifeguards cordoned off the beach as Jersey-based bomb disposal officer Stuart Elliott carried out two controlled explosions on the object.
