Members voted this week to adopt a series of regulations ahead of the ‘general election’ on 19 October, when 45 seats will be decided, setting new limits on what can be spent and by who. Deputy Montfort Tadier was the only Member to vote against the new rules in their final reading.
Under the regulations, which were proposed by Privileges and Procedures, the committee in charge of States procedures and reform, Senatorial candidates will be able to spend a maximum of around £8,771, made up of a set figure of £2,700 and a further 11 pence for every registered elector.
