Residents and tourists joined together for a re-enactment of the 1945 events in Liberation Square, followed by a memorable afternoon of entertainment and celebration at the Weighbridge.

And throughout the day, whether at private garden parties, parish tea dances or the main organised events, Islanders marked the day.

Addressing a special sitting of the States, Senator Terry Le Main – the father of the House – reminded his fellow politicians how important it was to honour those who gave their lives, and later in Liberation Square, the Bailiff, Michael Birt, said that Jersey’s freedom had forged a spirit of reconciliation.
