Jersey’s brilliant second-half show at home to Taunton brought them a richly-deserved bonus point from a 46-18 win, which brings them one point closer to long-time leaders Ealing, who came from behind in the second half to register a battling win at Old Albanian – but without the four-try bonus.

Cruelly, many of the Jersey team and officials were, immediately after the match at St Peter, wrongly informed that their title rivals had gone down in St Alban’s – a result which would have put the title outcome back in Jersey’s own hands.

But, as it stands, it is still a truly epic contest at the top, not just for for the title, but also the promotion play-off place currently occupied by coach Ben Harvey’s men.
