The Dark Sky Association – a US-based organisation dedicated to preserving the darkest night skies on earth – issued the honour in recognition of the island’s work to ensure that as little light as possible spills up into the sky.
Sark submitted a bid to become a dark-sky island last year and recruited UK-based freelance astronomer Steve Owens to help them to co-ordinate a light management plan.
