Yesterday, Members voted 28-21 to reject Senator Alan Breckon’s proposals to set up small committees under each minister, to get more States Members involved in decision-making and spread the work around.

The proposals would also have changed the Scrutiny system and created more targeted reviews instead of permanent panels.

Although the plans had the backing of Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur, senior Scrutiny chairman Ben Shenton and States reform committee chairman Juliette Gallichan, many States Members refused to get behind them.
