World Class film about our Island

World Class film about our Island

From Pat Dubras.

FIRSTLY I would like to congratulate all who were responsible for organising the Branchage Film Festival. What a mammoth undertaking. There were so many different films, and the wonderful night at the Burlesque evening in the magnificent old building in Liberation Square.

I would like to highlight the superb 20 minute film at the Jersey Arts Centre on Saturday morning about Jersey, by a St Aubin company, Hall TV.

The programme was called World Class, and I believe there are 25 other programmes in this series about the best places in the world to visit. A lot of it was filmed from a helicopter, showing Jersey’s wonderful coastline.

It featured the Battle of Flowers, Battle of Britain, fishing, surfing, the harbours, Longueville Manor Hotel, restaurants and eating houses round the town.

It portrayed the Island as a lovely place to visit and hopefully this will be shown round the world on the internet at www.worldclass and the American network The Travel Channel, which I was delighted to learn has over 90 million viewers.

I was rather disappointed to see so few people there, and particularly, no-one from Tourism, despite being invited, as this film could be a great advert for the Island.

Surely Tourism should be supporting independent people who want to help improve the exposure of the Island and especially to such a huge potential audience – and at no cost to them.

Hearty congratulations to Roland Topf for doing such a good job.
