Directory inquiry

From Heather Unwins.
THANK you and well done to the JEP. We now have our 2010 telephone directory and we can get rid of our 2008 ones, thanks to you all.
Some months ago you carried a news article regarding someone who had had seven directories dumped on their doorstep. We were still waiting for our one copy. The article prompted me to telephone Jersey Telecom and inform them that we had not received our copy. I was assured that they would inform the distributors to send us one. An email would be sent to the UK.
We waited and nothing happened. Weeks went by. I was prompted again by the picture of Bernard Holley in Tuesday’s (JEP, 4 May) paper holding a picture of the 2010 Liberation directory to try again.
I rang Jersey Telecom and was told all deliveries had stopped, and that other people in Grouville were still waiting.
On inquiry I learned that the email had been sent some time before and the book would come from the UK. On asking why the UK? And couldn’t Jersey Post deliver them? I learned that Jersey Post’s cost was too expensive.
It does seem madness, when there are people unemployed in Jersey, to have a UK company arrange to employ Jersey people to deliver the directories. Why not cut out the UK Company and employ local people directly?
Some time later a friendly telephone voice said that they would bring round the directories, which duly arrived.
Thank you. We are so grateful for them so I am hoping that when 2011 comes it will not be two years before we get the new ones. So, out with 2008 and in with 2010!
