Snook completed the 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycle and a 42km run in 9hr 32 min 15 sec, to place 29th out of more than 1,800 triathletes competing in the event in his native South AFrica. He was fifth in the 30-34 age group.

However, despite such a good finish, there was huge disappointment for Snook as he discovered he had missed out on qualifying for the World Chamionship Ironman race in Kona, Hawaii, by a matter of minutes.

‘I had mixed feelings after the race,’ he admitted. ‘On the one hand, a real sense of achievement at finishing my first Ironman in a good time, beating some professionals and being on home soil. On the other hand the disappointment of not having qualified for the Ironman Championships in Hawaii, by a matter of minutes.’
