A spectacle hidden from view

From Dennis Shore.
LAST Friday evening my wife and I decided to go and watch the official opening of the Jersey Boat Show.
It’s not often we get the chance to see a military band play in full force, not that I am a great fan, but something different is always good to see and deserves support.
They were superb and it was a spectacle worth 20 minutes of anyone’s time. Followed by a firework display which always brings out the ooh’s and aah’s.
My only issue was this, why was such a display of pomp and ceremony relegated to the end of the Victoria Pier where only a few die hard supporters and the mandatory dignitaries of such a show saw it?
Why was it not held in the square in front of the Royal Yacht where it could have been watched by many more people, most of whom did not even know it was taking place?
Would this not have been a much more suitable venue to show off to locals and visitors alike that Jersey can organise first class events rather than almost be embarrassed at such an achievement?
The square was built to be used, so let’s use it and be proud of it. Oh yes, and finally, can we have the fireworks when it is dark? They are bit hard to see when the sun is still up!
