The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority has ended the utility company’s monopoly in the fulfilment industry by giving a licence to HubEurope and UK-based Citipost to deliver large letters and packages – including DVDs and CDs – for online retailers.

But Jersey Post has attacked the competition watchdog’s decision to open up the market and accused the regulator of ‘failing in its duty to properly assess the impact on the

traditional postal business’.

Jersey Post is already carrying out a substantial redundancy programme to cope with the

increasing international competition and declining mail volumes. The company says this latest decision will compound its decision.
