Jersey is staging the opening legs of the 150 km race in April – the first time that any part of the week-long event has been held outside Brittany, although a time trial was held in the Island in April 2007.

The Jersey section starts and finishes on the main road by Gorey Common, where there will be a ‘cycling festival’ with food stalls and street theatre. About 400 cyclists will snake through Gorey and along the coast past Archirondel and Anne Port, before turning inland towards Queen’s Valley and back to Gorey.

However, the many road closures planned for the race on 25 April has worried residents and businesses in the affected area. About 2,500 householders will find it hard to leave their homes while the race is on, and St Catherine’s Café will be cut off from passing trade.

But Mr Reynolds added that Jersey Tourism had promised to try to figure out another route for customers to use.
