Competing at the third venue of the season, in Germany, the Jersey Bobsleigh Club members placed 22nd and 23rd in their two races out of 25 finishers.

Golder said: ‘Race four and five were a real success. Our start time for the first race was 5.45 seconds, top 17, which we were both satisfied with. It was marginally bettered on the second day to 5.44, top 15, and the 22nd and 23rd placings were our highest finishes in the Cup.

‘The difference between 19th and 22nd place was only 0.06 seconds which shows how competitive the sport has become and how the smallest of errors can cost you five places.’

Now ranked 33rd in the Cup competition, out of 42, third of four British teams and 13th out of 17 junior teams Golder and Crowell will have one race in Altenberg today with the next round scheduled for Cesana, Italy in January.

‘Altenberg is known as Altensmash for good reason,’ he added. ‘It makes Igls in Austria feel a bit like a bike ride in the park, massively technical with hard-hitting corners that shake you to your core.’
