Ring fever!

‘It’s been really tough,’ said club official Dave Thompson. ‘All the boys want to be on this one and we’ve got some cracking contests in prospect. The coaches at South Hill have been kept really busy and it’s a boom time for the club. The Sugar Ray evening has really caught the imagination and the contest against the South of England will certainly be tough.’

The South were one of the few sides to beat Leonis in recent years when their coach, George Brown, brought a triumphant team over in February. The two sides will go head-to-head for the Fitzgerald Estates Gold Cup at the Hotel de France on Thursday, 8 October.

The Jersey boxers are lightweight Ben Murray, light-welterweights Shane Goggin and Boyd Munroe, middleweights Tommy Noel and Ben Cairney and Jersey football’s Island Games gold medal-winning manager Craig Culkin, who will step in at light-heavweight. It is hoped all six, or at least five, can be paired up for the evening.
