Starting from Elizabeth Castle breakwater just after 3 pm it was Tom who touched the boom at the top of the harbour near Maritime Museum first, finishing in a time of 20.23 minutes just six seconds ahead of brother JJ with Steven Price third in 21.01.

In the women’s event Katie Speller was in dominant form as she finished over one minute ahead of last year’s winner Emma Glendening to take the honours in 21.19 minutes. Tasha Stuttard finished third.

Swimmers ranged in age from 12 years to over 70 at the event and were accompanied by Alan Le Prevoux who was towing a dummy in a inventive celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Jersey Aquatic Rescue Club.
