They were taking part in the 11th Jersey Relay for Life at the Royal Jersey Showground.

The event started at noon on Saturday and the teams walked for 24 hours to raise both cash and awareness for Cancer Research UK. It is expected that they will have collected £75,000 when all the money has come in – £25,000 more than last year.

Organiser and local Cancer Research treasurer Carol Rafferty said that it had been a fantastic success. ‘Nothing went wrong,’ she said. ‘We had over 400 people registered in 26 teams and the weather was fantastic. We would like to thank all the members of the public who came up to support. We had so many visitors come and join the fun.’

She added that the race had started with a lap of honour by around 60 people who had won their battle against cancer. ‘We invited them to come along to prove that we are making progress,’ she explained. ‘They came for a champagne reception and strawberries and cream. Some of the survivors were in the actual team as well.’
