This year, for the first time, entry to the St Catherine’s Bay based event is being opened to certified members of all Amateur Swimming Association clubs throughout the UK and many are expected to take part.
If successful this year, organisers then hope that the Open, which is this year being held on Sunday 13 September, can become an annual event which will be recognised nationally.
The event is made up of different categories for juniors, under 16s, 16-40s and masters over 40 for both males and females, with a choice of three and five km courses for all but the juniors who compete on the shorter course.
The junior event begins at 11.30 am with the seniors’ event at 1.30 pm and any category two member of a local ASA affiliated club is invited to take part. No wet suits or fast-suits are permitted and the event will follow JLDSC and Channel swimming rules.
