Bashforth excelled in the 13-year-olds’ section to win silver while registering her first ever national qualifying time in the process at the Sheffield No Frills Meet held at Pond’s Forge.

She lowered Rosie Barette’s time of 18 min 18.98 seconds to a new mark of 18.7.37, her time now ranking her sixth in Britain for her age group.

The 13-year-old followed up her Friday record with a massive six second personal best and second National time to claim the bronze medal in the 400 freestyle.

Henry Job (13) recorded his first National time in the long course 100 free after going under one minute for the first time. His effort secured him bronze in his age group and he followed up with a second National time and a silver gong following a five-second PB in the 200 free. Job also finished second in the 400 free.

A National mark still eludes Giovanni Guarino (13) despite him finishing first in the 200 breast-stroke. Guarino was perilously close being just .08 seconds away. Guarino has another opportunity to qualify at the Southern Championships in two weeks’ time.

Declan Borg (13) won silver in the 100 breast-stroke but he too missed out on a National qualifying time by exactly the same margin as Guarino.

Tigers coach Nathan Jégou said: ‘It was another successful weekend and despite taking only five swimmers we finished in the top 20 of the visiting clubs out of 38.’ The National are at Pond’s Forge in Sheffield between 22 July and 2 August.
