THE first Jersey Dinner Boxing Club event of the year will feature Jersey’s finest amateurs taking on a City of Belfast Select for the Capita Group Gold Cup.
The black-tie evening is at the Hotel L’Horizon on Saturday, 7 March and though the bouts have yet to be announced it already has an outstanding guest list.
Former two-times world heavyweight champ Terrible Tim Witherspoon is joined by regular favourite Big Joe Egan, a heavyweight with a host of stories to tell, and just fresh from parts in several movies, including Guy Ritchie’s ‘Sherlock Holmes’ which stars Robert Downey jnr and Jude Law. Egan, a former sparring partner and friend of Mike Tyson, had his original role in the film, as a gangster, extended. He is in Ireland a the moment filming Steven Kenny’s Blood Sweat and Wars, a tale of feuding familes in Galway.
Also returning to Jersey is Cornation Street’s biggest boxing fan, Steve Arnold, better known as Ashley Peacock. The match is being sponsored by Trevor Hunt and Anthony O’Keefe of Capita Group.
