THE path is clearing for Senator-elect Alan Breckon to run for Chief Minister.
Senators Ben Shenton and Freddie Cohen and St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft ruled themselves out of the running today, leaving a much-diminished field.
Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur is the only candidate to have formally declared so far, and it looks as if Deputy Breckon, who came second in the Senatorial election last month, will be a challenger for the position. It also appears that Senator Stuart Syvret, who was the unsuccessful challenger to Senator Frank Walker when the top job was first contested three years ago, will run if he can get the required six signatures on a nomination form.
Deputy Breckon (pictured) says that he will consider his position over the weekend and make a formal announcement on Monday — as does Deputy Roy Le Hérissier, whose name has been suggested by some fellow Members but who described himself as ‘very much an outsider’.
