PROFESSIONAL boxing is returning to Jersey next month after a 20-year absence – and it’s coming back with a real bang!

Dennis Hobson’s Grand Gala Dinner boxing show at the Hotel De France on Saturday, 25 October, is certainly a quality production, with an English title fight topping the bill. It could quite possibly attract a major broadcaster, while the evening should prove a great hit with charity too, with children’s organisations the NSPCC and CLIC Sargent (Jersey) the nominated beneficiaries.

Island resident Hobson, usually associated with venues like Las Vegas and fighters of the calibre of Ricky Hatton, has long dreamed of putting on a top class show in Jersey and will do just that with English super featherweight Femi Fehintola defending his title for the first time against Gareth ‘the Gladiator’ Couch.

Bradford’s Fehintola, who has trained in Jersey before, has a 19-1 record and taking on the unbeaten Couch (12-0) should provide some real fireworks. The fast and exciting ‘Fire’ Fehintola will be joined on the bill by other members of Hobson’s renowned Fight Academy – English bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell; top ranked prospect Gaven Smith – and Danny Maka, late of Jersey Leonis, who will make his professional debut.
