AFTER years of lying derelict in Ouaisné Bay, the former Doolans restaurant will soon be reopening for business under new management.

Nigel Godfrey (pictured) and James Lane, directors of the Boat House Group, which owns the Boat House and also has the lease for the L’Auberge du Nord, have bought the nine-year lease for the restaurant, which has been closed for five years.

Mr Godfrey and Mr Lane say they hope to bring to Ouaisné Bay local food, live music, beach games and al fresco dining. Although the group have not come up with a new name for the restaurant yet, the plans are for a downstairs beach café with a bar and restaurant above.

Mr Godfrey, who used to run the Smugglers Inn at Ouaisné, said that the restaurant should be open by May 2009 and would be aimed at local people. ‘There was a massive local market there that has gone,’ he said. ‘We are looking at utilising the beach for beach volleyball and soccer and bringing water activities to the bay.
