IT was undoubtedly Guernsey’s day in the annual Sark to Jersey event on Saturday – the blue riband race of Channel Islands rowing.
But with the temperatures soaring, all the 50 finishing boat crews throughly earned the applause they received at the finish in Bonne Nuit Bay.
The dog-leg course from Dixcart Bay is particulary tough on the fixed-seat rowers, but it was in this traditional category that Jersey did enjoy most success, with the Sarnians’ sliding-seat crews romping off with most of the top trophies.
Although Guernsey won the men’s race, Jersey won the women’s event. Those hard-earned pieces of silverware and plenty more were presented at St Helier Yacht Club in the evening. The race was sponsored by Jersey Post.
