Opera House inaccuracies

From Charles Pitter.
SUE Lissenden’s letter (JEP, 29 July) is unfortunately inaccurate.
The Opera House is still a community theatre. Young Islanders have over the past two weeks performed with the professional cast of ‘Hello Dolly!’, and I understand that similar co-operation is planned for ‘Annie’ later this year.
As a trustee of the Phoenix Foundation, I have been pleas-ed to assist with funding for the Branchage Film Festival to ensure that an Oscar-winner film (‘Peter and the Wolf’) will be available free to primary pupils twice in September, accompanied by Gerard Le Feuvre and his orchestra. This opens the venue to the community and is outreach work.
My experience of the staff at the theatre is that they are enthusiastic and hard-working de-spite non-finance industry sala-ries. It would be less disheartening to a community theatre if we could recognise this a little more often.
