JERSEY shooters were on fire yesterday as they won the Flame Trophy by a massive eight-point margin.
Held at the Pirbright ranges, near Bisley, the international high-powered rifle match featured 15 national teams plus those representing the military.
Jersey finished with a total of 1,166.127, with the RAF Blue second on 1,158.114 and Canada Red third on 1,150.125. Jersey has now won this prestigious event three times and twice in the past six years.
Jersey Rifle Association president Cliff Mallett (coached by his son Colin), shot a superb 149 with 15 centres, the top score on the range to help Jersey to the win. A special mention should be made of Sophie Ponter who stepped up to the mark and performed extremely well in her first ever team match for the JRA.
