A SPOKESMAN for Jersey’s retailers has criticised the Consumer Council’s GST price check in supermarkets.
This week the consumer watchdog reported that prices had, on average, increased by seven per cent since the goods and services tax was introduced in May.
But Ray Shead, the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce’s retail sub-committee, said that the consumer watchdog’s survey was close to misleading.
‘The Consumer Council only picked up 15 or 16 items for their survey. Half of those products are items which have gone up anyway around the world. They have not taken an average across the board.’
