JERSEY team manager Mavis Le Marquand was full of praise for her team at the Belmont Club in Belfast yesterday, in spite of the fact that they had lost both openers to Scotland, 110-83, and England, 115-82.
‘Those two countries are world-class, and our girls held them for long spells, and competed with courage and skill,’ said Le Marquand (pictured), who is enjoying her first assignment as manager.
‘I have been told that it was quite normal for Jersey to lose to the Scots by 70 or 80 shots, so to take them to a 110-83 scoreline was a real achievement,’ she insists. ‘And we won three of the six rinks against England.’
Although Jersey did not return a winning card against Scotland, Jean Lowery, well supported by Rachel MacDonald, Brenda Foord and Yvonne Andrews, tied creditably with Liz Dickson’s quartet, 13-13.
