TRANSPORT Minister Guy De Faye has said that proprietors will have to pay to improve St Brelade’s beach themselves after they complained about a lack of sand.
Shop owners and deckchair stallholders in St Brelade’s Bay are furious at the current state of the beach after the high tides and storms two months ago swept the sand out to sea.
At the time they contacted Transport to see if something could be done and were told to wait until the next high tide, when the sand would hopefully be washed back in.
They say this did not happen and contractors arrived on Wednesday to pile up sand but they only did half the beach, stopping at Pizza Express and leaving from there to the L’Horizon Hotel full of rocks and boulders with green water stagnating in between.
