excellent start in the 34th Primary Schools’ Football Festival yesterday with a 4-0 victory against Hackney at the FB Fields.
In cold and windy conditions, the hosts ran up a 3-0 first-half lead with the wind at their backs and they defended well in the second period, when they added a further goal.
Coach Rob Cameron said: ‘It was a convincing win considering we had to make changes because of losing Jonathan Glendening through injury. Those who came in and others who were shuffled about did very well indeed.
‘We got the boys in early and spoke about how we were going to play and they responded perfectly. They gelled well and played some good football despite a few strong challenges.
‘Jamie Hamilton and Jack Gibson were both given opportunities to play in attack and they capped good showings with a goal each. Ryan Couillard and Johnny Le Quesne also scored, while Scott McClurg was strong in defence in the second half after coming on at half-time to play for the first time.
‘Defensively we excelled as a unit and hopefully we can continue with this sort of form throughout the week.’
