Battle of Flowers Association vice-chairman Steve Bouchard, who is involved with the Optimists Club entry, said that paying a three per cent goods and services tax on top of normal costs was going to cause float-builders major problems.
‘As a float builder I can see how difficult a three per cent increase is going to be,’ he said.
Mr Bouchard added that he could not understand why the States had not considered making Battle of Flowers groups exempt from GST.
As reported previously, organisers of the Island’s leading tourist event are already organising an emergency meeting because too many people want to enter floats in this year’s parade and there is not enough money to go around.
