Scott Devlin, who had an outstanding match, scored the only goal from the penalty spot midway through the second half after Saints defender Stuart Andr? was adjudged to have blocked a cross with his hand.
In a game of few chances, with Mark Brown also impressing in midfield for the Scots, goalkeeper Craig Fletcher pulled off a fine early save low to his right while in the second period Craig Leitch had an effort cleared off a goal-line by Scottish defender James Scott.
Trinity took full advantage of St Paul’s’ reverse by defeating Rozel Rovers 3-2 at the Riley Field to join the Saints in joint top spot but trailing them on goal-difference.
Rozel gave a fine account of themselves after the break to push Trinity hard in search of an equaliser after they had pulled back from 2-0 and 3-1 behind.
Ray Grant – after 45 seconds – Stephen McCarter and Dave Lloyd netted for Trinity and Stuart Truscott and James O’Haire for Rozel, the latter with a stunning 30-yard cross-shot that few into a top corner.
The top of the table is now tightly packed with St Peter in third place just a point behind the top two.
Scottish are fourth a further point behind but they have yet to be docked three points for playing an ineligible player in a 3-1 win against Rozel Rovers early this month.
