The deal, with details withheld, has already allowed for a Junior Grand Prix competition to be setup across the islands.

Players will compete in nominated events for points and the two players from Jersey and Guernsey who have won the most points in their age group will then go on to a play off during October half term.

The winners of the play offs progress to the final which will be played during the ATP/WTA tournament at Les Ormes in November.

‘This new venture is the icing on the cake for tennis,’ said CILTA manager Hugh Raymond.

‘It is very encouraging that a company like AIB is prepared to support tennis in such a way.

‘Who would have thought that five years ago we would have an eight court indoor centre, an ATP event in the Island, ITF events, a full time coach in every club, a Grand Prix event, and County Cups all being run in the Island.

‘This exciting new venture will keep tennis at the forefront of sport in the Channel Islands and will allow us to move forward in a way that would not have seemed possible when the CI became a county some 20 years ago.’

‘AIB Jersey is delighted to support the CILTA’s new initiative, AIB Grand Prix.

We wish the CILTA success in this new event and also with their prestigious programme for 2008 including representation at the Jeux des Isles in Guadeloupe at the end of May and the Commonwealth Youth Games in India in October.’
