Jersey Dairy chairman Andrew Le Gallais believes that good results in the UK are down to their international cow breeding schemes, something that is currently banned in Jersey but expected to be introduced later in the year.
‘Farmers with Jersey herds on the mainland have had access to outside genetics in the last ten years,’ he said.
‘That is why they have seen significant improvements in overall yield and milk quality. They have proved what can be done by using good genetic breeding and it is something that can definitely be achieved in Jersey once we are allowed to import bull semen.’
