Anger over party donation slur

A donation made to the leadership campaign of new Scottish Labour leader Wendy Al-exander came under scrutiny after a Scottish politician said that Mr Green’s £950 contribution was made through a UK company.

But Mr Green made it in his own name through a personal cheque, and Charles Gordon, MSP, has now withdrawn the claim that it was made through a UK company. Mr Gordon resigned yesterday as Shadow Transport Spokesman as a result of the controversy.

His withdrawal of the assertions exonerated Mr Green of any impropriety.

It is illegal for non-UK residents to donate to political parties. And Mr Green has revealed to the JEP that he was thanked by Mrs Alexander for his donation in a personal letter she sent to him in October this year.

In that letter there was no mention of returning the cheque.
