As a major part of the initiative, a new technology learning suite, complete with 56 PCs, was opened this week by Education director Tom McKeon, who admitted that career-minded women still found it tough to hit the top jobs, including in the public sector. ‘There is a glass ceiling in this Island in terms of the career progression of women, and that is evident even when you look across the chief officers of the States,’ he said. Beaulieu’s drive has been taken up by Mike King, chief officer of Economic Development, whose department is now working towards a project to support the engagement of women in technology acrosss the Island. The school has been supported in its drive by local firms i-consult and Minerva.
