The panel agreed to give the show the go-ahead after the Opera House’s chairman Chris Lakeman claimed that the recent Apollo/Dionysus performance at St James, which featured naked teenage boys, was far more explicit. Puppetry of the Penis will be shown on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 October and as both nights have already sold out, a third, late showing is being added for Wednesday evening. The Opera House are billing the evening as ‘a mind-blowing show featuring two handsome, strapping Australians who manipulate their manhood into various shapes, objects and landmarks’. Advocate Lakeman, who said that Thursday’s meeting was very amicable and courteous, said: ‘People should be allowed to make their own mind up on the subject and, looking at the demand for tickets, there are plenty of people – from all walks of life and of all ages – looking forward to the show.’
