Customs officers were involved in the road check and two vehicles were also found to be being driven on duty-free red diesel, which is illegal except for boats and tractors. Almost 600 vehicles went through the check in Trinity on Tuesday morning and four were immediately impounded because of their poor state. Two – a van with a corroded chassis and an unregistered 4×4 with the same problem – were sent to the scrapyard. The check was carried out by the Driver and Vehicle Standards, joined by Customs and Immigration and the Honorary Police. Fifteen drivers were issued with defect notices, five drivers have to present driving and insurance documents at Trinity Parish hall and a further four drivers have to notify Driver and Vehicle Standards, of a change in keeper details.
