Horses arriving from the UK will only be allowed in if they have not been in the ‘surveillance zone’ around the current outbreak area in Surrey in the last 30 days. All horses will also require vet’s certificates confirming their whereabouts prior to entry. If permitted landing, they must be inspected and have their hooves picked out and disinfected. Environment Minister Freddie Cohen said: ‘A fifth case of foot-and-mouth has been confirmed yesterday and in keeping with our proportionate response, I have imposed the new restriction as a precautionary measure. The imperative must always be the protection of our Jersey herd,’ he said.
