The Privileges and Procedures Committee say they want to rescind the decision to extend Constables’ terms of office from three to four years. July’s three-day debate on reforming the States saw proposals to remove Senators and Constables rejected by the Chamber, who also dismissed suggestions for a referendum, a ‘super-constituency’ model and changes to electoral terms. The only two proposals that were approved were the extension of Constables’ terms and the moving of their elections to a single day. But Privileges now say they want to reverse the extension of the Constables’ terms.
