The Chief Minister’s Department has released a paper today proposing a May start date instead of an April one, and countering some of the suggestions made in the recent GST backlash including a protest from pensioners last Thursday. The paper, published as a supplement in today’s JEP, says that the May implementation date for the three per cent tax will mark the end of a consultation process that began six years ago. Chief Minister Frank Walker said that misleading statements were being made about GST and that Islanders should stick to the facts. ‘The process of changing our tax structure has involved numerous public consultations over several years,’ he said.
